Hubby runs the half!

Yes that is right my husband has officially run his 1st half marathon at Pf Changs RocknRoll. Last year he wanted to attempt it but since it was the day before the Marathon Olympic Trials (I was hoping to be running in that race) he had to postpone it for a year. He signed up through the  “Mayor’s Run” Hugh Hallman the former Tempe Mayor put this group together years ago and they have raised lots of $$ for charities in the Phoenix area.

Throughout his training I tried to sneak in little tips here and there (some were taken others rejected). I was able to stress the importance of at least some prerace nutrition. I am really proud of my husband for balancing the training and committing to the race. One morning I ran with him and it was 36 degrees. Lets just say good thing we live in AZ.

We wanted to try to go see him on the course but with traffic and parking logistics it just did not seem possible. This did give me the opportunity to get to the finish line early and see the winners.

Kevin had a great race. He said his legs were heavy near the end and someone added a big hill around mile 10. I suggested more hill training and speedwork next time around.

Official finish time 1:47:44!!!!!!!

Kevin was pretty salty at the end so I forced him to drink 2 big Gatorades and a bottle of water. He was very patient to go over to the finish line again and watch for some of my friends running the full marathon. Then we hiked about a mile to the car.

Since no Camberg weekend is complete with just 1 sports event we rushed home to prepare for a gymnastics meet. Katherine’s gym was hosting the Arizona Grand Invitational with lots of gymnasts from all over the city and country. Kevin really is a trooper he sat at the meet for 5 hours.  Yes that is how long the meets generally are including the awards ceremony. Katherine’s total time competing and on the awards podium about 6 minutes. Big cheers for Kevin!!!

Gold Medal gymasts won 1st place for Level4.

Gold Medal wins 1st, all 29 girls on the podium.

It is yet to be determined if he will run another half marathon or even go for the full but I know if he does he can beat his time and enjoy doing it.
